Wondering how to help your struggling ninth grader? Try one of these ideas— |
Many teachers conduct regular review sessions and/or are willing to meet with students before or after school for help. Contact the teacher to see what he/she suggests. |
If the times for SOAR or the individual teacher don’t work with your/your student’s schedule, you might consider hiring a private tutor. Contact your student’s guidance counselor for a list of tutors. |
Sometimes, a student’s academic struggles are indicative of other issues going on in his or her life. Working with your student’s guidance counselor, you can hopefully identify and address these issues. Call the guidance office at (410)-313-7400. |
We typically find that ninth graders who struggle in the classroom either don’t know how to study or don’t prioritize their time appropriately. Workshops on both skills are offered throughout the year. Check back soon for more details. |
SOAR is a free peer tutoring program sponsored by the Guidance Office, NHS, and MTHS. Tutors are available to help struggling students in room 135 every Tuesday from 2:15-3:15pm. Students must sign up in guidance the Friday before the session. |
